Handmade in Friuli, soled in bicycle tire rubber, lined with seven layers of upcycled jute sacking — this is the furlana made the way it used to be.

What Is a Furlana?

The furlana (plural: furlane, also called friulane or "gondolier slippers") is a traditional soft slipper born in 19th-century Friuli. Women in the countryside stitched offcut fabric uppers over soles reinforced with jute sacking and, later, worn bicycle-tire rubber — a shoe born of necessity, not fashion. When it reached Venice, gondoliers adopted it for the same reason it works today: a soft, grippy sole that moves quietly and doesn't scratch varnished wood. It has no left or right foot — one symmetric shape that gently molds to whichever foot wears it.

  • Lining — built from seven layers of recycled jute sacking, hand-stitched for structure and breathability.

  • Made in Friuli, by hand, following the traditional construction — not stamped, not mass-produced.

One Shape, Made to Fit You

Furlane are unisex with no dedicated left or right foot. Rather than being pre-molded, the slipper starts symmetric and slowly takes on the shape of your foot the more you wear it — part of the tradition, not a compromise.
